The Patrick J. Mullen Jersey Fresh Quality Grading Award was presented to Maugeri Farms of Woolwich Township on Tuesday, February 8th, 2011 at the New Jersey State Agricultural Convention in Cherry Hill. Mullen was the Director of the NJ Department of Agriculture's Division of Marketing and Development and developed the Jersey Fresh Quality Grading Program, which inspects produce to ensure it's of the highest quality. Each year, Jersey Fresh Quality Grading Program inspectors recognize a farm that works hard to supply top quality produce. Maugeri Farms is run by brothers Sam and Joe Maugeri Jr., who cultivate more than 600 acres in and around the Oldmans Creek area. They sell their produce to wholesale distributors and markets and supply many of the roadside markets all over New Jersey and in Pennsylvania. In 2007, the Maugeris opened Maugeri's Farm to the public for the first time in the farm's 80-year history for hay rides, pumpkin picking and fall activities. In early 2011 they broke ground, constructing a beautiful new farm market on their farm on Oldmans Creek Road.
Samuel and Joseph Maugeri received the 2010 “Vegetable Growers of the Year” Award on Wednesday evening, January 13, 2010 at the annual awards banquet for the Atlantic Coast Agricultural Convention and Trade Show sponsored by the Vegetable Growers Association of New Jersey (http://njveggies.org). In addition to submitting the nomination, Agent Casella was also able to present the award at the evening ceremonies. “I have known this family for almost 15 years and have always been impressed with their commitment and passion as farmers, to their strength, love, and faith as a family and the generosity they show for their community. This award was well deserved”, said Michelle Casella. In the agriculture industry Maugeri Farms is well known for excellent products marketed under the name “Arrowhead Brand” and their produce is sought after by buyers of top quality vegetables.
